Richard Seymour
The National Football League Hall of Famer won the US$2.200 High Roller tournament of the World Series of Poker Circuit at Harrah’s Cherokee -us., taking home US$106.577 and his first circuit gold ring. To achieve this, he overcame a field of 234 players and defeated Bradley Butcher
The victory represents his first major live title and confirms that his transition from professional football to competitive poker is not a passing curiosity, but a natural evolution for an athlete accustomed to performing under pressure.
From the turf to the felt
Seymour was a fundamental piece in the Patriots dynasty of the early 2000s, winning three Super Bowls and establishing himself as one of the most dominant defensive linemen of his generation. In 12 seasons in the NFL, he accumulated 57,5 sacks and 496 tackles, numbers that support his induction into the Hall of Fame in 2022.

But beyond the statistics, his hallmark was always tactical intelligence and competitive calm, two virtues he now brings to poker.

“Poker requires many things similar to football: patience, choosing moments well, and reading tendencies,” the former player explained. “My temperament suits the game well; I’m not too emotional, so when bad things happen, the key is how you respond.”
Seymour often uses one of his Super Bowl rings as a card protector, a mix of symbol, warning, and conversation starter.
With this victory, the former defender is just a few thousand dollars away from reaching one million in live tournament earnings. And although football gave him fame, poker could give him a second competitive career.
