A serious incident shook the poker community in Las Vegas. The professional Jared Griener
According to the player himself on his social media, the incident occurred after being eliminated in The Closer. After cashing the prizes accumulated during the summer, he returned to the accommodation he had rented and found a terrifying situation.
“After being eliminated in The Closer I cashed my summer prizes and drove back to my Airbnb. When I opened the door, two men were waiting for me. They threw me to the floor, tied me up, and took my backpack with all my bankroll.”
Griener, who ranks second on the historical earnings list of the state of Utah, secured four cashes during the WSOP 2026 totaling US$78,280, including US$57,500 for finishing 218th in the Main Event.
The player suspects the criminals knew exactly when he would return with the money. “It’s likely someone was watching me at the WSOP and knew I was coming home with cash. Las Vegas detectives are already investigating,” he reported.

As hours passed, a video recorded by a security camera of a neighboring house appeared. The footage shows Griener, still with tape on one of his hands, asking for help a few minutes after the alleged assault.
The Las Vegas Police confirmed that the investigation continues and that, for now, no one has been arrested. Additionally, it was revealed that Airbnb offered a partial refund of the reservation, although the claim corresponding to the host’s liability insurance has not yet been filed.
In another post, Griener provided a detail that could be key to the investigation: “These people knew the access code to my Airbnb. They were waiting for me inside and the neighbors’ cameras show they arrived about ten minutes before me.”
The report generated a strong reaction on social media. While numerous players and fans expressed their support for the American, others doubted the version of events and speculated that it might be a hoax. For now, however, the authorities keep the investigation open and seek to clarify what really happened at the accommodation where Griener claims to have lost his entire bankroll.
