Poker players are often people with very particular interests. The fact of having decided to build a career based on a card game already speaks of a mentality that thinks outside of what is expected by most people. That is why, usually, we tend to find players with equally particular passions outside the tables. Such is the case of Lex Veldhuis 
This Monday, the Dutch professional player, specialized in online poker and streaming, surprised with a publication in which he analyzes the positive aspects of anime as a form of entertainment.
«Anime is genuinely one of the best forms of entertainment out there, and being ashamed to watch it as an adult is incredibly insecure,» Veldhuis began writing in the first of seven posts that made up his thread on X.

«The idea that animation is for children is hilarious. You watch Marvel, Star Wars, and dragons made with CGI, but anime is where adulthood begins? Anime deals with themes like war, pain, revenge, loneliness, ambition, and death better than a lot of ‘serious’ TV shows. And yes, sometimes it’s just people screaming, transforming, and hitting each other with absurd attacks. That’s awesome too,» Lex continued his defense.
«You are an adult. Why do you keep letting other adults decide what fictional story you are allowed to enjoy? Watching anime at 40 is not embarrassing. Being 40 and being terrified of what someone else might think about your hobbies, that is embarrassing. Watch anime. Enjoy things. The desperate pretense of being a serious adult is infinitely more childish,» Veldhuis concluded.
We don’t know if this post by Lex was motivated by a comment he received in real life, or perhaps by a comment from one of his streaming viewers. What is certain is that the player elaborated a solid defense of what is, evidently, one of his passions. Perhaps in the future, those who meet him in a tournament (although he usually plays more online than live) can talk with Veldhuis about his favorite anime.
