Placey started with a lead of 7.7 million against 2.3 million, but Pan took care of doing what was necessary to turn it around. However, the businessman was not willing to let go of his opportunity and regained the lead. In the final hand, Pan ended all-in with top pair and Placey ended up making four of a kind with 3s. Thus, Peter Placey was crowned champion of Event #5 of the US Poker Open and took home a prize of $224,000.
