A dealer is caught cheating by pretending to shuffle the cards

Unfortunately, every so often a news story appears that reminds us once again that the poker world is not exempt from cheating and dishonest behavior. Usually, these tend to come from players looking to gain an advantage. But on this occasion, a dealer was caught by security cameras making suspicious movements.

At the River Poker Club, located in Houston, Texas, a dealer was caught who, instead of shuffling the cards, was arranging them and pretending to shuffle them. Although the video went viral without more context than the location of the establishment, it is easy to interpret that these are suspicious movements. While it could be an innocent mistake, it is rare for a person whose job is to shuffle cards to make such a blatant error.

The incident occurred during a cash game in the early hours of the morning. Apparently, it was a private game, but it is not certain. In the video, you can see how the woman makes all the normal movements to shuffle the cards, but she doesn’t do it. She splits the deck in two, arranges them, pretends to shuffle them, and, most strikingly, doesn’t even cut before dealing.

Naturally, this caught people’s attention and the video went viral in a matter of minutes. Unfortunately, the lack of context does not allow us to know if it was a completely private game, if it was in one of the club’s regular games, and it is not even known if any of the players filed any kind of complaint. What we do know is that we must be vigilant because even in the most successful clubs in the United States, we can find ourselves facing dishonest practices.
