Before the Final Table of the Main Event of the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) began, the organization decided to eliminate the Shot Clock, that is, the clock that was used throughout the tournament and gave players 20 seconds to act preflop and 30 postflop. The decision itself generated quite a controversy, but the reality is that its absence did not have a major impact on the game dynamics. It all started with the original debate about whether or not to use these clocks. User Rey Henson posted a message on social media, saying, “With how long it took to go from 9 to 7 players on the first day of the final table, WSOP needs to consider putting the shot clocks back in play.”
Savage simply replied: “As long as they stop calling them ‘shot’ clocks, I agree”, implying that his crusade was not against the use itself, but against the name. A somewhat peculiar observation.
User Mo Nuwwarah joined the debate, agreeing with Savage. “In football, it’s called ‘play clock’. In baseball, it’s ‘pitch clock’. The common denominator is that the clocks don’t shoot anything, so they’re not called ‘shot’ clocks. We’re the weird ones for no reason. Savage is right.”

Taking advantage of this interaction, Savage made his own post, where he elaborated on the topic.
“The truth has been spoken by Sir Mo,” Savage began. “Let no one ever call it ‘shot clock’ again. Action clock, Play clock, Clock, Time clock. All are allowed.”
Although it is a somewhat strange concern to have while the future world poker champion is being decided, it is interesting to raise the debate, since there is no real reason to put the word “shot” before “clock”. Savage himself does not know where this nomenclature comes from, but he is determined to change it.
