The announcement of the full schedule for the 2026 World Series of Poker has already been a topic on CodigoPoker, but now the focus shifts directly to the tournament that paralyzes the poker world: the US$10.000 Main Event. Although the fine details have not yet been released, everything indicates that the Main Event could arrive with significant changes, especially in its definition.
The official statement confirmed that the tournament that crowns the world champion of the year will continue until the final table is formed on 13 July, and that the specific dates on which that definition will be played, as well as the details of the television coverage, will be announced later. In other words: the concrete possibility of a deferred final table returns.
Return to the spirit of the “November Nine” in the Main Event?
Between 2008 and 2016 (cover photo), the World Series of Poker implemented the iconic format known as “November Nine”, in which the Main Event final table was postponed for several months to boost anticipation, media coverage, and the commercial development of the protagonists.

While the current announcement does not speak of a pause of months as in that era, it does mark a break from recent years, when the definition was played almost immediately. Even a pause of weeks could completely change the experience for both players and fans.

The context is also significant: one of the semifinals of the World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada is scheduled for 14 July. Although there is no official confirmation that this mega-event influenced the decision, the precedent exists: in 2012 and 2016, the Main Event final table was moved on the calendar due to the media impact of the presidential elections in the United States.
A delay in the final table would allow the public to get to know the nine finalists better, generate a narrative and, above all, that the protagonists can capitalize on the moment with sponsorship deals, patches at the table, and greater international exposure. In times where personal branding is key, that can change careers.
Additionally, the measure seems to align with the vision of GGPoker, which is in its second year as owner of the WSOP and which is giving clear signals of wanting to give the Main Event an even more prominent place within the global poker calendar.
