“The goal of the new system was to reduce the candidate backlog, but the system failed,” the Canadian wrote on his social media.
For Negreanu, the solution should have been a preferential voting system. His proposal consisted of each Hall of Fame member ranking three candidates in order of preference, assigning different scores to each position. In this way, the top two ranked would automatically enter, with the possibility of a third chosen if they reached a certain threshold of support.

For Seiver, there is a simple way to improve the situation: allow each nominee to present a brief statement with their main achievements and explain why they deserve to be part of the Hall of Fame. This way, voters would have more context and the process would be more transparent and human.
While Jason Koon enjoys a widely deserved recognition, the real focus seems to be elsewhere. The criticisms of two figures like Negreanu and Seiver reopened a debate that seemed resolved and left a question hanging in the air: if the new system was born to fix a problem and did not succeed, is it time to change the rules again?
