“It’s hard to fully exploit the dominance you had; your way of working was truly inspiring”, Schulman told Negreanu. “That can only be the result of all the experiences in your life. I think you were incredible and, you know, you are one of my heroes. And the fact that you keep playing at such a high level is great. I really appreciate you coming, Dan, truly.”
Visibly moved by the words of his colleague and admirer, Negreanu responded humbly:
“I’m glad I did it. I think if you are introspective and humble enough, you realize there are people better than you. And if you don’t reach that point, they will surpass you. 2004 was the only time I felt I was the best at this. I won about US$4.5 million; the biggest initial investment was US$10,000,” Daniel replied.
