Case The Lodge: accusation collapses, cleared of charges
Caso The Lodge: la acusación se derrumba y queda libre de cargos

The case of The Lodge Card Club that put one of the most important poker rooms in the United States on edge has just taken a turn worthy of a legal thriller. After almost two months of tension, raids, and high-profile accusations, the Williamson County Grand Jury decided not to file charges against the establishment owned by Doug Polk

and company.

The story began on March 10, when agents from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) raided the club with accusations that sounded serious: money laundering, illegal gambling, and organized crime. The scene was worthy of a police series: more than 1.3 million dollars seized, operations halted, and nearly 200 employees sent home without certainty.

It was not the first time Texas poker went through something this confusing, but this blow was different. The Lodge — backed by strong industry names — was at the center of an investigation that seemed to escalate without restraint. Over the days, some accusations began to crumble, such as the money laundering charge, which was dropped. However, the club remained closed while authorities insisted there was probable cause.

The outcome came this week. The Grand Jury, responsible for determining if there was enough basis to formalize charges, opted for the “no bill”: there were not enough votes to sustain the accusation. In simple terms, the prosecution failed to convince.

On the other side, the reaction was immediate. Doug Polk

, poker legend and one of the owners and visible faces of the project, confirmed that all charges were dismissed and that the seized money will be returned. The message was clear: “justice prevailed.”

BREAKING NEWS: All charges against me, my partners, and The Lodge have been officially dismissed. The seized money and equipment will be returned and we will reopen as soon as possible, hopefully within a few weeks. The Williamson County Grand Jury heard the accusations against us and refused to authorize the proposed charges.
Justice has prevailed.
The damage to our staff and members has been enormous, and now it is time to rebuild.
We will be organizing a reopening event in the short term.
In the words of a great man: “know when to hold ’em”

Now another stage begins, less media-focused but equally complex. Reopening will not be just about raising the curtain. The Lodge will have to rebuild its operation from scratch: rehiring staff, regaining players’ trust, and reorganizing an ecosystem that was frozen.

For poker in Texas, the ruling sets a precedent. And as in every good hand, this time the river completely changed the story.
