While major poker tournaments usually take all the spotlight, in Germany there is a competition that focuses on those who make every hand run perfectly: the dealers. In 2027, the German Dealer Championship will celebrate its fifth edition and will once again prove that dealing cards is much more than a mechanical task.
The chosen venue will be the Merkur Spielbank Hohensyburg, in the city of Dortmund, one of the country’s most traditional casinos. There, the best dealers from German rooms will arrive to compete for a title that, over the years, has gained prestige within the industry.
But what is evaluated in a dealer championship? Much more than anyone might imagine. Participants must pass various practical tests measuring their technical precision, speed in dealing cards and chips, calculation ability, professionalism, and perhaps one of the most complex aspects, how they interact with players under pressure.
In other words, knowing the rules of the game is not enough. The best dealer must convey confidence, control the table, and maintain concentration even when the pace of action accelerates to the maximum.

The competition has also become an important meeting point for the casino industry in Germany. Operators, instructors, and specialists take advantage of the event to exchange experiences about training, customer service, and the evolution of a profession that often goes unnoticed by the public.

The German Dealer Championship was born in 2023 under the impetus of the German Casino Association and, in just five years, has managed to establish itself as a must-attend event for the sector. Additionally, the good results recently achieved by German dealers in international competitions have further increased interest in the tournament.
Although it does not award millions of dollars or golden bracelets, this championship shows that behind every great poker hand there is also a professional whose skill can make the difference. Because, at the end of the day, the protagonists are not always those who receive the cards; sometimes, those who deal them also deserve their moment in the spotlight.
