The fight against illegal gambling took an important step in the province of Buenos Aires
The measure originated from a complaint filed by the Argentine Chamber of Casino, Bingo and Annexes Halls (CASCBA), which pointed to possible infringements of article 301 bis of the Penal Code, a rule that punishes the organization of gambling without the corresponding authorization.
A record operation against illegal gambling
Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari, in charge of the investigation, highlighted that the joint work between public and private organizations was key to advancing against these platforms.
“Interinstitutional cooperation constitutes an indispensable tool to face the growth of illegal gambling and especially protect children and adolescents from the risks associated with these platforms,” the official assured.

In addition, the authorities detected serious deficiencies in identity verification systems, which allowed access by minors and increased the risk of early exposure to online gambling.
A precedent for the regulated market
Ferrari remarked that this is the largest massive blocking of illegal gambling platforms carried out to date in the province of Buenos Aires, a decision that seeks to set a precedent in the fight against clandestine online gambling.
In the same vein, Gonzalo Atanasof, president of the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC), highlighted the importance of removing unregulated platforms from users’ reach.
“Every illegal site we manage to block is one less access door to a clandestine circuit that does not protect players, does not verify the identity of those who enter, and allows access by minors,” he stated.
With this operation, the province reinforces its strategy to combat illegal online gambling, protect players, and promote a regulated market under the supervision of competent authorities.
