Poker always has room for the improbable, but what happened this week at Playground Poker Club in Montreal
The pot had been growing since June 4, 2025, when it was last paid out at just US$70 thousand. Since then, the counter continued to rise and, in recent weeks, the atmosphere in the room was one of genuine fever. Even regular Texas Hold’em players moved to the Omaha tables looking to participate in the millionaire hit.
The Sunday before the hit, the casino saw a record: 16 PLO tables running at the same time, all with players dreaming of the hand that would change their lives.
And that hand arrived.
According to the Poker.Org report, it all happened at table 35 during a $2/$5 PLO5 game with seven players. Mario S. was on the button when five players paid the $20 straddle to see the flop. After some moderate action, three players remained in the hand heading to the river.
When the last card fell, Ramsey B. bet US$400, the straddle player called, and Mario pushed an additional US$90 all-in. Ramsey called without suspecting what was to come and showed a J-high straight flush, convinced he had a monster.

What he didn’t know was that Mario had something even better: King-high straight flush. The room exploded.

In a bad beat jackpot, the player who loses with a brutal hand takes the largest share of the prize. That’s why Ramsey ended up receiving 40% of the pot, about US$370.000, while Mario, with the winning hand, collected around US$185.000.
The rest of the money was distributed among the players at the table and also among those playing Omaha in other tables in the casino.
This isn’t the first time Playground has starred in a story like this. Last October, they had already paid out a US$1,5 million jackpot with another absurd combination of straight flush against straight flush. For now, the counter starts over: the new Omaha bad beat jackpot already exceeds CAD$100.000.
