What the hell happened in Texas? That question could well sum up Queens & Cards, the women-focused festival recently held at the Champions Social Club that left several stories worthy of our Freaky Friday.
It all started with a tournament that seemed designed by someone who thought traditional poker didn’t have enough chaos. The US$150 Women’s Tag Team gathered 120 entries, smashing the casino’s previous record of 85.
The peculiarity was in the word “switch.” Every time the tournament director said it, the members of each team had to immediately swap their stacks. The strange part? The switch could happen practically at any moment, even during a hand or while a player was thinking about a decision.

The Poker Brat was constantly playing with US$900 effective and a continuous bounty of US$1,000. In other words: eliminating the 17-time bracelet winner meant taking the pot and collecting an additional thousand dollars.
Limo even joked afterward about having enjoyed facing Hellmuth and his “4% VPIP.”
Beyond the show, the weekend had a much more serious goal: to build community and attract more women to poker. Hellmuth highlighted the number of participants who traveled from different parts of the United States, while several protagonists celebrated the atmosphere created by the organization.
There was even time to convince the Poker Brat to put money up to pay the Main Event bubble. Texas being Texas.
