“I didn’t know Eastgate had the best hand, but it made sense that he had a 2,” explained Dwan. He also explained that Greenstein made continuation bets too frequently, which led him to raise on the flop.
“It’s terrible on paper. It’s terrible if you put it into a solver. I’m sure. Although I never did,” he continued. “When Eastgate called, I thought, ‘My money is gone. I’m ready to leave the casino.’ Then Greenstein called too, and I thought, ‘This doesn’t make sense.’ When Eastgate called, it was almost certain he had a 2. Then I thought, maybe I could have a chance to bluff.”
“I don’t know if it was an EV+ decision. But if there’s a spot where I can do something that looks crazy, where everyone thinks I’m losing US$50K and I think I’m only losing US$2K, then I’m going to try it and hope for the best,” Dwan concluded.
