Far from hiding his frustration, the Poker Brat shared a video as soon as the tournament ended and admitted that the blow hurt a lot.
“To everyone in the poker world, I’m pretty depressed right now. I had 34 million chips and my opponent played really well. He had 10 million, but I have Phillip and Nick with me, and Kathy is here too.”
The first two are his sons, while Kathy is his wife, who accompanied him during the final in Las Vegas…
Without wasting much time lamenting, Hellmuth said that almost immediately after losing the heads-up for the bracelet, he went with them to play… poker. “We’re playing some (cash) hands at the Tuscany Casino. They keep my spirits up,” he said.
Although he admitted that the monetary prize was important, he made it clear that his goal was different: “They keep telling me I won $464,000, so I should be happy. But I played very well. I simply was never all-in and got called all day. I did the best I could.”
Finally, the all-time bracelet winner took the opportunity to thank everyone for the support during the entire final: “To everyone in the poker world who was watching and cheering me on, I really appreciate it. I love you all very much.”
At 61 years old, Hellmuth once again showed that he remains competitive at the highest level. The 18th bracelet didn’t come this time, but the American made it clear that he doesn’t intend to give up. In fact, as soon as one of the most important finals of the summer in Las Vegas ended, he was already sitting at a poker table again. Because if there’s one thing that characterizes the Poker Brat, it’s that whether he wins or loses, he always goes for more.
