What began as an investigation into suspicious betting ended up uncovering one of the most shocking alleged criminal networks to have hit the world of sports and poker. This week, four of the 31 defendants in the so-called “Operation Royal Flush” pleaded guilty before a United States federal court, marking an important advance in a case involving professional sports figures such as the NBA, high-profile bettors, and alleged ties to the New York mafia.
The last to admit their responsibility were Shane “Sugar” Hennen
One of the most attention-grabbing names is that of Angelo Ruggiero Jr.

The investigation also states that the organization offered between US$10,000 and US$30,000 to college players to alter specific actions in NCAA games. With several defendants cooperating with justice, everything points to this scandal still being far from showing its final chapter.
