For almost 25 years, Garrett Adelstein
On September 1st, Beneath the Cards: A High-Stakes, High-Anxiety Poker Journey, Adelstein’s new autobiographical book, was published on Amazon, a work that promises to cover his unique path to the top without too many filters.
The story begins with his evolution from a young online poker prodigy to becoming a high stakes streaming star, but inevitably there is a chapter that marks a before and after: the famous J-4.
That controversial hand against Robbi Jade Lew
But Beneath the Cards aims to go much deeper.
Garrett relates experiences in underground games where compulsive players, professional cheaters, and millions of dollars crossed paths, as well as episodes including alcohol excesses, death threats, financial problems, and the impact of public exposure.

The book also leaves the tables to enter much more personal grounds. Adelstein addresses his struggles with perfectionism, depression, and body dysmorphia, as well as recalling his frustrating participation in the reality show Survivor.
Among stories and confessions, strategic concepts and reflections on the mindset necessary to survive in the ruthless high stakes ecosystem also appear. Currently residing in Manhattan Beach with his wife Jennifer, his two children, and his dogs, Adelstein thus presents probably his most personal bet.
Because after spending decades trying to discover what his opponents were hiding under the cards, this time he decided to show his own.
The book is currently available for a price between 15 to 20 dollars, depending on the format (though only in English) at this link.
