Chile has taken action against online betting platforms operating outside current regulations. The Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) ordered six of the country’s main Internet providers to block access to 42 online betting and casino sites within a maximum period of 48 hours.
The measure was taken in compliance with rulings from the Supreme Court and the Santiago Court of Appeals, following a protection appeal filed by the Concepción Lottery against Entel, Movistar, Claro, GTD, WOM, and VTR.
The list of sites was provided by the Superintendence of Gambling Casinos (SCJ), which previously verified that the included platforms are not authorized to operate under Chilean regulations.
The blocking will be carried out through the DNS system, a method that, according to the technical report presented to the court, allows action on the identified domains while reducing the risk of affecting lawful services.
“As Subtel, we are strictly complying with the court rulings and the regulatory framework, deploying an efficient and coordinated technical solution that safeguards people’s digital security,” said the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Romina Garrido.
The official added that telecommunications companies were required to act “with the utmost speed” to block access to the platforms.

The official list includes some of the most well-known international brands in the sector as well as numerous alternative domains, mirror sites, and pages specifically targeting the Chilean market.

How the blocking will work
The procedure involves three stages. First, the Concepción Lottery or other petitioners identify domains, subdomains, and possible mirror sites linked to the platforms.
Then, the SCJ verifies and certifies which correspond to operators that are not authorized. Finally, Subtel notifies the telecommunications companies and provides the list to execute the DNS blocking.
Entel, Movistar, Claro, GTD, WOM, and VTR must prove to the Santiago Court of Appeals that they complied with the order, even indicating the exact date and time each block was carried out.
The measure will not necessarily be limited to these 42 domains. According to the established procedure, new domains, subdomains, or mirror sites may be added later, provided they are identified, verifiable, and previously validated by the Superintendence of Gambling Casinos.
In this way, Chile deepens its offensive against online betting platforms it considers unauthorized, while the debate on the operation and regulation of online gambling in the country continues.
