Nacho Barbero, without a filter: «I started studying now that I play Triton»

Nacho Barbero

Argentina
is, without a doubt, the most successful Argentine poker player. With almost US$30 million in accumulated cashes, he has managed to earn a place among the best in the world. His daily life is surrounded by top players, such as Adrián Mateos
Spain
, of whom he is a great friend. However, his path to the top was not always full of glamour and good decisions. In a chat with Cristian Stival
Argentina
, Nacho said that discipline was not a very present factor at the beginning of his career.

At one point in the chat, Cristian decided to ask Nacho what kind of player he feels he is today, after so many years. Nacho replied:

“I feel a bit more mature. Before, I don’t know if I was doing things too well. I was always very skilled with cards, so everything came quite easily to me. But hey, obviously, if you add dedication and study to that…”

Stival’s follow-up question was quite direct: “When you say you weren’t doing things well, what do you mean?”. It was then that Nacho referred to his poor relationship with studying.

I probably started studying for real now, since I started playing Triton. Before, I didn’t study anything. I’m a guy who is very good with cards. That comes from Magic, not from poker. Magic is much more difficult than poker. Obviously, poker can be studied much more than Magic. But hey, nothing, before I might play anything, I never studied, maybe I read a book that existed or I don’t know what, things like that, but there weren’t many ways to study. Now that solvers have come out and you can look at things, it’s much easier,” Barbero replied.
