A player took the chips from a tournament to the bathroom and ended up disqualified

In poker there are costly mistakes… and then there is this one. In the middle of the Asian Poker Tour Taipei action, an episode worthy of this new edition of the Freak Fridays stole all the attention: a player was disqualified for taking his chip rack… to the bathroom. Yes, literally.

The incident, reported by Poker.org, happened when the participant — whose identity was not disclosed — was moved to another table. In that process, instead of leaving his chips under supervision as protocol dictates, he decided to take them with him outside the playing area. The destination? The bathroom. The result? A disaster.

According to the report, the player ended up spilling chips on the bathroom floor, which immediately triggered the organization’s alarms. Tournament staff quickly went to check the situation and what they found was enough to make a firm decision: immediate disqualification.

The measure may sound extreme for an apparently innocent mistake, but it has a solid basis. In official tournaments, chips in play must always be visible and controlled. Taking them out of the supervised environment opens a dangerous door: the possibility — intentional or not — of altering the stack, either by adding chips or manipulating the count without control.

The player tried to defend himself. He claimed it was a lapse, a slip closer to amateurism than cheating. However, the organization did not hesitate.

Freak moral: you can forget to fold aces… but never, ever, take your chips to the bathroom. Because there, literally, your tournament can go down the drain.
