The tournament, one of the highlight events of the season in Las Vegas, began with three starting flights held at the end of February. Thanks to the massive participation, the championship generated a prize pool of over US$2,2 million, attracting both local circuit regulars and international players.

Spanne, who had started the day among the shortest stacks, staged a true comeback. First, he found a crucial double-up with kings against another pair from Jung, which catapulted him into the lead. Then, he eliminated Alexander Farahi when he hit a straight with a weak ace against his opponent’s suited broadways.
With Vu eliminated in third place, the final duel was set between Spanne and Jung. The heads-up was intense with constant lead changes, but everything was decided quickly: Spanne hit a straight on the river that left Jung with few chips. Shortly after, with J J, he trapped his opponent with a lower pair and sealed the victory.
Interestingly, after winning the biggest prize of his career, Spanne preferred not to make any statements, letting the cards speak for him.
