Excellent performance by Rodrigo Noceda

Mexico
in the last event of the series belonging to the WSOP Circuit which was held at the Playground Casino located in Quebec, Canada from March 23 to April 7, managing to take 2nd place in Event #18: $400 NLH Mystery Bounty.

Noceda participated in this international series accompanied by Diego Ponce

Mexico
, Paul de León
Mexico
and Eloy Castro
Mexico
, who took advantage of this excellent opportunity to compete in an environment that Ponce himself described in our previous publication as more extensive in competitors but with much softer technical demands.

The last event of the series at the Playground Casino was played in Mystery Bounty format with a buy-in of CA$400, equivalent to about US$290 at the current exchange rate. The format awards bonuses for eliminating players in the active payout phase, and these have variable amounts, from a minimum with a larger number of envelopes to the highest prize available that the luckiest player to choose it at the right time opens.

A total of 251 entries were registered to generate a total prize pool of CA$86.595, including the bounties in play. This pool was distributed among the top 38 participants who secured at least CA$560 in their pocket before having to proceed to get up from their respective seats.

Rodrigo Noceda came close to returning to Mexico with a WSOP champion’s ring

After signing up to give himself one last chance to compete in this series, Rodrigo Noceda had an excellent deep-run in both the early and middle stages of the tournament, accumulating chips significantly and eliminating opponents to make his way toward a final table that already felt close.

In the final stage of play, the Mexican faced mainly local competitors, although there was also a North American presence with María Hernández

United States
and Hong Kong presence with the player under the alias “GGTY”
Hong Kong
, according to their registration on the WSOP+ platform. After the departure of Murray McCartney
Canada
in 3rd place (CA$5.930), our compatriot faced “BigMacDJ”
Canada
in the final heads-up, whom he could not overcome to take the champion’s ring in play.

In his last hand, Noceda went all-in with A 5, a hand that seemed to have a good chance of coming back against a wide calling range from his opponent; however, he ran into the top part of it when he was called, showing A Q which dominated him heavily. On the community cards, the dealer placed K 7 2 J 10 to hold the higher cards as winners. For his runner-up finish as “Runner-Up”, Rodrigo secured a trip to the cashier for a very good CA$8.740 (US$6.326), an amount to which the bounties in play collected on the way to this final showdown would have to be added.

The WSOP International circuit will have its next appointment at this same venue until next May 10, when the next edition will be held with 18 champion’s ring tournaments in play, extending its schedule until May 25, serving as the prelude to the World Series Of Poker 2026 in Las Vegas

United States
which will run from May 26 until July 15 of this year.
